Journey to Timbuktu is the story of Ana and Lucho, two teenagers living in Peru. Their love story, which begins in childhood, reveals the changes that took place in the country during the 1980s. For them, the only way to survive amidst violence, poverty, and a lack of opportunity is through their love—a kind of refuge whose homeland is an imaginary country called Timbuktu. However, reality will stand in their way and cause their utopia to collapse.
