Welcome to "Filmed in Peru!"

Roberto Pazos

Our mission is simple: to showcase the incredible stories, culture, and creativity of Peru through film—and to bring those voices directly to audiences in the United States.

Since our launch in 2023 with just five films and three filmmakers, "Filmed in Peru" has grown into a dynamic showcase featuring 20 films and 12 filmmakers by 2025. Each year, we celebrate not only cinema but also the richness of Peruvian culture with captivating films, authentic cuisine, refreshing drinks, and vibrant live entertainment at select screenings.

How It All Began

It all started with a coffee in Lima. In 2022, Roberto Pazos and Steve Hunsicker met with Roberto’s former classmate, filmmaker Jimmy Valdivieso. Jimmy had recently completed his film Mi Barrios Altos Querido, which had screened across Peru, Europe, and beyond—but not in the United States. His simple question—“Why aren’t Peruvian films shown there?”—sparked an answer that would become "Filmed in Peru."

The idea was clear:

  • Give Peruvian films a platform in the United States.

  • Offer filmmakers the chance to connect, collaborate, and expand their audience.

Our Growth

  • 2023 – Official launch with 5 films, 3 filmmakers, and the U.S. premiere of Mi Barrios Altos Querido in New York City and Paterson, New Jersey.

  • 2024 – Expanded to Miami, hosted screenings at the Village East Cinema in New York, and introduced short films for the first time.

  • 2025 – Expanded to Long Island and collaborated with the Miami Film Festival, curating a special "Filmed in Peru" program within their event.  We had 5 International Premieres, showing films for the first time anywhere outside Peru.

Over the past three years, we’ve proudly showcased some of the most acclaimed voices in Peruvian cinema, welcoming directors, producers, and actors who represent a true “Who’s Who” of the country’s film industry.  This list of past films showcases the variety of Peruvian cinema.

Looking Ahead

Work is already underway for our fourth edition in 2026, and we’re excited to continue building a cultural bridge between Peru and the United States—through stories that inspire, move, and connect us all.
