Plaza Cinema
The Plaza Cinema & Media Arts Center in Patchogue, New York, began in 2010 as a grassroots effort by volunteers who hosted monthly film screenings at the BrickHouse Brewery, eventually leading to the founding of Plaza MAC, Inc. with early support from filmmaker George Stoney. After moving into a 1,200-sq-ft Artspace storefront, the team and community transformed the space with upgraded seating, professional projection and sound, and eventually two art-deco marquees added in 2016. Today, the Plaza operates as a non-profit 501(c)(3) art-house cinema dedicated to showcasing mainstream, independent, and international films, as well as live broadcasts, festivals, and speaker events. It also serves as an educational hub, offering field trips, workshops, and media literacy programs. Supported by admissions, tuition, grants, sponsorships, and donations, the Plaza continues to promote film as an art form and a catalyst for cultural dialogue within the Art House Convergence network.
